SMS Terms & Conditions
Effective August 27, 2026 · WriteOff Inc.
These terms govern the Writeoff text messaging program. They apply in addition to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
1. Program description
Program name: Writeoff Assistant & Account Alerts
Program sponsor: WriteOff Inc.
Writeoff sends account and assistant messages by SMS and MMS. You can text Writeoff to submit receipts, ask questions about your books, and instruct the Writeoff assistant to take actions on your account. Writeoff replies to those messages and sends related account notifications and one-time security codes.
The messages you may receive fall into these categories:
- Assistant replies. Responses to messages you send, including confirmations of actions you asked the assistant to take on your account.
- Receipt and document confirmations. What we captured from an image you sent and where it was filed.
- Account notifications. Filing and estimated-payment deadlines, bank connections that need reauthorization, transactions awaiting your review, and similar service alerts.
- Security codes. One-time passcodes for signing in or authorizing sensitive changes.
2. Consent
You will only receive text messages from Writeoff if you affirmatively opt in, by checking the unchecked consent box on our waitlist form or in your account settings, or by texting a Writeoff number first.
Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of purchase and is not required to use Writeoff. You may use every feature of the product in the web and mobile app without ever providing a mobile number.
By opting in, you confirm that you are the subscriber or customary user of the mobile number you provided, that you are at least 18 years old, and that you agree to receive messages sent using an automatic telephone dialing system. By agreeing to receive text messages, you also consent to the use of an electronic record to document your agreement. You may withdraw your consent to the use of the electronic record by replying STOP.
If you change or give up your mobile number, tell us promptly at support@writeoff.tax so we do not message its next owner.
3. Message frequency
Message frequency varies and depends on how you use the service. Most users receive fewer than 20 messages per month.
4. Cost
Writeoff does not charge you for text messages. Message and data rates may apply. Check with your mobile carrier for details of your plan. Writeoff is not responsible for charges from your carrier.
5. How to opt out
If you no longer want to receive text messages from Writeoff, reply to any message with STOP. We also honor QUIT, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, REVOKE, and OPT OUT. You will receive one final message confirming the opt-out, and after that we will not send you further messages in this program unless you opt in again.
Opting out of text messages does not close your Writeoff account or stop email notifications. Manage those in your account settings.
To resume messages after opting out, reply START or re-enable SMS in your account settings.
6. How to get help
Reply HELP to any message for a summary of the program and our contact information. You can also reach a human at support@writeoff.tax, Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm ET.
7. Carriers and delivery
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is subject to effective transmission by your carrier and is outside our control. Supported carriers may change without notice, and not all handsets or carriers support every feature, including MMS.
8. Privacy
All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
See our Privacy Policy for the complete description of what we collect and how we handle it.
9. Acceptable use
Do not use the Writeoff messaging service to send unlawful, abusive, or fraudulent content, and do not attempt to instruct the assistant to take action on an account you do not control. We may suspend messaging for a number that violates these terms.
Text messages are not a secure channel and are not monitored for emergencies. Do not use them to report an emergency, and avoid sending full account numbers, Social Security numbers, or passwords by text.
10. Changes
We may update these SMS Terms. Material changes to the program will be posted here with a new effective date, and where required we will ask you to opt in again.
